Testimony of seeing an angel ItÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢s amazing to think that while schools are opening in some states this week, I can remember meeting one of the most memorable women on my first day of high school. Fifteen years ago I was starting my freshmen year at London Central High School in the United Kingdom. It was a new year. I had confident attitude. And somehow a small ego evolved around my physical looks and single status. But it was the blunt speaking, incoming freshman that humbled me. Her name was Judith Legarretta and it was her first year at London Central. She was a dorm student from Italy, wore small platform shoes to make up for height and brought a little attitude. Coming in my first year of high school, I considered myself to be the man in school everybody needed to know, but she humbled me with her remarks and kept me level headed. She told me openly I was wrong in some classes. She admitted to me that she would never date me. And she would even question my intellect. I said Ã?¢ââ??¬Ã?Å?how can you talk to me like that, IÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢m Nate.Ã?¢ââ??‰â??¢ But my question didnÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢t bother her. She would never show any emotion. Judi wasnÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢t impressed with the great resume I developed participating in extracurricular activities. Oddly enough, the wise cracking comments ceased and the young man that she tried to keep grounded came around. We turned into friends. Judi soon became an unofficial member of my family. She developed a tie with my parents, both of whom worked in the school system. In a sense, I guess she became a hardnosed sister for me. We graduated together after those years and stayed in touch by phone. She was in Florida and I was in Maryland. Our lives went separate ways of course, but the news of her death left a testimony untold. Judi was a friend, a sister and an angel that I didnÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢t recognize until 15 years later. There is a scripture in the Holy Bible that reads: Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. IÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢ve learned my lesson and blessed to have been in the presence of one such angel. Rest in peace Judith Anne LeGarretta.
