Julia Joyce Gladis' Obituary
Julia Joyce Gladis, 93, a resident of Fort Myers, FL since 1984, formerly of N. Aurora, IL passed away peacefully under the care of Hope Hospice on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. She was born May 30, 1929 in Chicago, IL to the late, Michael and Anna (nee Kuzmiak) Zmina.
Joyce and her husband, George, met as members of Saint Michael’s church in Niles, Illinois where they began their family. They enjoyed traveling together, driving all over the United States to visit Florida and Third Armor conventions to see their Army friends. Joyce at that time was a part of the Mother’s Chorus, a local group of moms that would gather to practice at her home and perform at local events.
When they moved to Fort Myers, they became early members of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Myers, FL. There, she was a dedicated member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and a member of the church choir. She was very fond of the volunteer work she did for several years at Health Park Hospital in the Xray lab. She was an incredible baker and loved sharing her Czechoslovakian heritage with everyone around her. Joyce adored her 7 grandchildren and was elated to have 5 great-grandchildren to love on and be loved by. Her love of caring for others (and for pandas) will be missed and she will affectionately be remembered by all. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Gladis.
She is survived by her three loving children, Mary Sue Gladis of Fort Myers, FL, Eileen Sedor (late Fr. David) of Wexford, PA and George Gladis (late Nancy) of Batavia, IL; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Ross), Stephanie, Jodi (James), Charissa, Michael, Ashley (Scott) and Amy; as well as five adored great grandchildren, Sophia, Aidan, Hannah, Liam and Autumn.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 8210 Cypress Lake Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33919. A Funeral Service will be celebrated 11:00 AM following the visitation. Burial will be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery at the conclusion of the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
