KASTANTY J. SURPITSKI ?á had a smile that would warm your heart and a sparkle in his eye that reflected his love of family. Don?ÇÖt forget the twinkle and innocent expression when he was up to something. His arms were always open for a welcomed hug.?áHe was born on January 24, 1918 in Ipswich, Massachusetts to Gwenovefa and?á Bronislaw Surpitski. He was the third son of a total of six boys. Three sisters predeceased him as infants.The family struggled through the Depression and suffered the loss of their mother in 1929. At age 11, Kosty, as he was called, took on the responsibility of caring for his younger brothers, as their father worked in the mills. Kosty worked as a farmhand on local farms. He fished and dug clams and picked and sold blueberries to help sustain the family. He worked construction and road repair for the town. Then he joined the CCC?ÇÖS.Civilian Conservation Corps ( a public work relief program), was created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt for unemployed, unmarried men for relief families, age 18-25. The participants provided manual labor related to the conservation and development of natural resources in rural lands owned by federal, state, and local governments. Kosty drove an 18-wheeler, flat-bed truck to haul heavy equipment to road building sites in Colorado while serving with the CCC?ÇÖs. At age 24 he joined the Army. He was Honorably discharged in 1943. He then worked as a farmhand at Danvers State Hospital, in Massachusetts. There, he met a pretty nurse named Ellen Cutrumbes. They were married June 24, 1945. They raised two children, becoming grandparents to three and enjoyed four great-grandchildren. Kosty worked as a custodian for the Hamilton-Wenham school system for over 20 years. He loved playing Santa at school functions during the holidays! Kosty and Ellen retired to Ocala, Florida in 1985. In his retirement Kosty enjoyed playing golf and watching football on T.V.. ?áKosty?ÇÖs wife, Ellen, predeceasedHim on November 27, 2011.He is survived by a daughter, Gwen Kenneally of Fort Myers, Florida and a son, John (Constance) Surpitski, of Ipswich, MA. In addition, a grandson Scott (Shannon) Kenneally and great-granddaughter Katelin, of Florida; a granddaughter Heather Kenneally, her husband Steve Betts, and Great-grandson Maxx Kenneally-Betts, of Florida; a grandson Richard Surpitski and great ?Çôgranddaughter Michaela and Natasia, of MA.Donations may be made in his memory to:Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, Fl 33908
