Dr. Kathleen Rosemary Butler-Lowrie's Obituary
Dr. Kathleen Rosemary Butler-Lowrie of Lehigh Acres passed away on December 16th after a prolonged illness. She was sixty-five.
A life-long learner and teacher, Kathleen earned a doctorate in Adult and Community College Education from North Carolina State University and received post-doctorate instruction at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She was a professor of English at multiple colleges and universities and enjoyed success as a published author. Later in life, she tutored immigrants in English as a second language.
Kathleen’s affinity for learning and teaching was exceeded only by her faith. She dedicated herself to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Inspired by his ethos of kindness, understanding, and service, Kathleen embraced a service-driven life – volunteering at her local church, working with community organizations, and providing the gift of hospitality to family, friends, and strangers alike. In 2014 Kathleen combined her passions for writing and faith, publishing a book of poetry titled The Life of Christ Through Poetry and Other Poems, and was ghost writer on The Funny Side of Death by Lee B. Downs.
Kathleen was raised in Dundalk, Maryland, and moved to Lehigh Acres in 2004. There, she met the love of her life, Art Lowrie, and they wed in 2009. With Art, Kathleen found peace and joy in serving in the church, camping in Florida’s state parks, and caring for their rescue dogs.
Dr. Kathleen Butler-Lowrie was preceded in death by her brothers, Theodore and David Butler, and is survived by her loving husband Art Butler-Lowrie, sister Marian Butler, and a network of family and friends in mourning that stretches from coast-to-coast. Services to be announced and simulcasted remotely via Facebook Live. Kathleen’s vibrant faith, kindness, and concern for others will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
