Kathy Jean Horne's Obituary
Kathy Jean Horne (Duvall), age 66, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, in North Fort Myers, Florida. Born on December 27, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Kathy lived a life marked by deep devotion to her family, enduring love for animals, and a spirit of resilience that inspired all who knew her.
Kathy dedicated over three decades of her professional life to Publix, where she worked for approximately 34 years before retiring in 2013. Her commitment and work ethic left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.
Beyond her career, Kathy’s heart belonged to her family. She shared many beautiful years with her beloved husband, Kenneth E. Horne. Together they built a home filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories. Their bond was one of unwavering support and joy—whether bowling together in their league or spending sun-soaked days boating and canoeing down Peace River with family and friends. Summers were often spent at the beach or enjoying seafood dinners—simple pleasures that brought Kathy immense happiness.
Kathy’s love extended deeply to her children: Shannan L. Jones (Justin) and Jeremy D. Ellis; as well as her stepchildren Kenneth J. Horne (Tabetha) and Crystal G. Horne. She was a proud grandmother to Alyssa B. Jones (Alexander), Jayme L. McAdam (Sean), and Kaylee N. Jones; and step-grandmother to Austin J. Horne (Rosie), Leanna Horne, Leila Griffiths (Damay), and Lyla D. Coulson. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren Christian Peck, Summer Peck, Bennett Horne, and Levi Horne.
She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings W Michael Duvall, Laura L. Manning (Woody), and Timothy J. Duvall; along with many nieces, nephews, and beloved pets who brought joy to her life over the years.
Kathy was predeceased by her loving husband Kenneth E. Horne; her parents William R. Duvall and Judith A. Duvall; stepson Michael L. Horne; mother-in-law Gloria J. Horne; brother-in-law Danny Horne; and great-grandson Kaleb Michael-Vincent Jones.
A woman of boundless strength, compassion, and grace, Kathy faced life’s challenges with dignity and determination. Her warm smile lit up every room she entered, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her.
From an early age, Kathy displayed musical talent—playing both piano and violin—and was honored to be part of the all-county orchestra in Indiana during her youth. Her lifelong love for animals was evident in the many pets she cared for throughout the years.
May Kathy’s memory bring comfort to those who knew her and serve as a reminder of a life lived with love at its center—a legacy that will continue to shine brightly through generations to come. A Graveside Service will be held on August 30, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens 1589 Colonial Blvd. There will be no viewing beforehand.
