Larry T. Oney's Obituary
Larry Thomas Oney, 78, of Cape Coral, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012 following an extended illness. He was born March 18, 1933 in Jackson, Ohio and moved to SW Florida in 1970. He was a Korean War Veteran with the United States Marine Corps. Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery in Ohio near his mother and father, and deceased daughter, Kelly Dawn. ?á ?á Mr. Oney is survived by his children: Erin Jean Oney of Montana, and Richard Thomas Oney of Ohio, his brother: Robert A. Oney, Sr. (Betty) of Fort Myers, his sisters: Kay Lovell (Rex) of Memphis Tennessee, and Debra Burgess (Bryan) of Nevada. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, good friends and neighbors. ?á ?á Mr. Oney worked at the family sheet metal business all his life. His great-grandfather, Lester James Oney, started LJ Oney & Sons in 1928. Larry moved the business from Ohio to Fort Myers in 1970. He worked in all aspects of the trade, but was extremely talented in commercial and residential product design. The business is still active today, known as Oney Sheet Metal in Page Field in Fort Myers. ?á ?á Mr. Oney was active in the Moose Lodge for many years and enjoyed fishing, golf, and playing with his great-grandchildren. He was a big fan of Ohio State football and basketball. He graduated from Jackson High School in Jackson County Ohio, and recently attended his 60-year class reunion. In 1974, he extended the life of his sister, Linda, by donating a kidney. He had been receiving kidney dialysis for 13 years at the Davita clinic in North Fort Myers. ?á ?á Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers FL 33907, 888-406-0756.
