Larry E Whitaker's Obituary
Larry E. Whitaker, 83, a lifelong resident of Fort Myers, FL passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020. He was born in Fort Myers, FL on May 12, 1936 to the late Ralph and Naomi Whitaker.
Larry started working at 4 years old on local farms. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was a proud veteran in the 101st Airborne division. He was an expert parachute packer and held the title for the fastest time packing a chute.
Upon completion of his military service, he returned to his hometown of Fort Myers and started his career in the produce business. He was the proud owner of the Iona Farm Market on Gladiolus Drive. He was hard-working and generous to all that knew him.
He loved southern comfort food and was an excellent cook. His favorite local restaurant was The Farmers Market. He enjoyed traveling especially to the Colorado mountains during the summer months.
Larry is survived by his 5 loving children, Larry Whitaker and his wife Sarah, Tawnya Whitaker and her husband Scott Marzen, Derrick Whitaker and his wife Lisa, Fallon Whitaker and Josh Gibson and his wife Kristen all of the Fort Myers area; one sister, Barbara of North Fort Myers; as well as three grandchildren, Alanna, Madeline and Grant.
A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, January 31, 2020 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Larry will receive full Military Honors.
