Laura A. Bertuch's Obituary
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Laura A. Bertuch of Mt. Vernon, New York. She passed peacefully on Saturday, September 11, 2021, following recent health challenges from dementia and COPD. She turned 93 years old on September 9th.
Laura was born on September 9, 1928, to her parents Ralph and Laura Tiso in Mt. Vernon, New York. She grew up in Mt. Vernon and raised her family there. She married on February 12, 1950, to her loving husband William A. Bertuch who sadly preceded her in death on February 22, 2015. They raised 3 children, JoAnne Bertuch, Carolyn Pappagallo and William A. Bertuch, Jr. Laura’s six sisters Marian Pastore, Sue Ciasco, Louise Groh, Eleanor Justino, Yolanda Tiso, Antoinette Pace and her one brother Anthony Tiso sadly preceded her in death.
Laura started working at a very young age in the 1940’s in the garment district in New York in a dress factory with her sister Antoinette Pace making bows. Making bows became one of her favorite things to do up until today. She then spent the rest of her life working and owning a snack bar at bowling alley establishments in Fleetwood and Yonkers. Those who knew my mom know how much she loved it and she loved all those she met at the bowling alley. She made the best egg creams. Mom was admired and loved by all who knew her she was known as everyone’s Mom or Grandma. She was devoted, energetic, tenacious and a hard worker up until her retirement at 88 years old.
In 2017 she relocated here to Ft. Myers to be near her daughter JoAnne, granddaughters and grandchildren.
Laura is survived by her three children, six Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren and one Great Great Granddaughter. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Eleanor and Ronald Bertuch.
My Mom touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed, never forgotten and loved always by her family, friends and all who knew her.
An Interment Service will be held at a future date at Ft. Myers Memorial Garden, where she will be laid to rest with my father Bill, the love of her life.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers you can make a donation to the American Lung Association, Lewy Body Dementia Association or the Alzheimer’s Association. Thank you.
