Laura O'Brien Church's Obituary
Laura O’Brien Church, age 61, passed away on Saturday June 27, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. She had bravely battled ovarian cancer for the past year.Laura was born September 17, 1947 to William and Myrtle O’Brien, who preceded her in death. She was married to and survived by her husband, Gary Church. She was a loving mother to Brian (Brandy) Church, and Alex (Natalie) Church of Cape Coral. Her one-year old granddaughter Giana, or “Gigi”, was the light of her life.Laura graduated from the University of Illinois and received her masters from Florida Gulf Coast University.A dedicate teacher for more than 30 years, Laura spent the past 28 years teaching in the Lee County School District. She was a teacher at SunCoast Middle School, Lee Middle School, and the Environmental Education Center. For the past eight years, she taught Environmental Science at Mariner High School in Cape Coral. Laura retired in April 2009.Laura was a great friend to many with always a kind heart and a contagious smile! Her passion was the Earth, the environment and wildlife. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her, but she will live on in the memory of those whose lives she touched.Visitation will take place at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers on Wednesday July 1, 2009 from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will take place at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Cape Coral on Thursday July 2, 2009 at 11:30 am.At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent in Laura’s memory to the Laura O’Brien Memorial Scholarship Fund (Mariner High School, 701 Chiquita Blvd., Cape Coral, FL 33993) or to Hope Hospice.“God would want such a beautiful angel on his side from here to eternity we will miss you Laura”Funeral arrangements under the direction of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907, (239) 936-0555.
