Laverne became a life long Chicago Cub fan when her dad Stewart, introduced her the the Cubs as a little girl growing up in Chicago. She kept the tradition going with her best friend of 60 plus years, Viola Emerson of Rockford, Illinois. True story: Laverne and I went to a Cub game together back in the middle '70s. We were about 20 rows up on the 3rd baseline behind the Cub dugout. She wandered down the isle before the game with her program to get some autographs. She came back all smiles and showed me where a player had scrawled his name. She handed me the program and asked me to look up number 88 to see who signed. There was no 88 on the program. We had a good laugh when we discovered the 88 was actually a BB. She might be the only person in history to get the autograph of the bat boy. I know I heard her distinctive voice screaming last night, 10/22, while I sat alone in my living room, as the Cubs defeated the Dodgers at Wrigley Field, 5 zip, to go on the the World Series of 2016. I could hear her yelling as her favorite player, Rizzo caught the final out and rushed the mound with his team mates. I AM POSITIVE I heard her voice! After all, being her Son-In-Law, I've heard her scream a bunch over the last 44 years. Sorry you couldn't see the game with the rest of us, but we know you are giving Jesus and the rest of them an ear full right now. Go Cubbies!!!!
