LaVerne Anna Sachs Wadzuk's Obituary
LaVerne Anna Sachs Wadzuk born December 21, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio passed away November 16, 2015 , at the age of 92, in Ft. Myers, Florida. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Martin Wadzuk (died 2006), her parents Joseph John Sachs and Helene Reske Sachs, her brother Robert Sachs and by her daughter Diane Marie Flett.LaVerne graduated from John Marshall High School in Cleveland in January 1941. LaVerne loved to dance and during her school years performed in multiple recitals with her dance troupe. As a member of the American Turners (German Turnverein) in Cleveland and Detroit, she placed 38th nation-wide in a gymnastics tournament in Springfield, Massachusetts in June 1941. After graduation she worked at Continental Printing, then as a comptometrist for N. Y. Central Railroad in Detroit, for Swift & Co. in their accounting department, and then for the Erie Railroad during World War II. She married Thomas Martin Wadzuk on April 22, 1944 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Cleveland, Ohio. She and Tom moved frequently living in Sarasota, Daytona Beach, Jacksonville, Ft. Pierce, Chicago (IL), Miami, and Ft. Myers. She was always busy with her daughters’ activities, serving for many years as a Girl Scout leader in the 50s, 60s, and 70s or sewing and creating gowns for daughters’ weddings and proms. She earned her beautician’s license in 1957 working at Arlene’s in Daytona Beach and later at Pretty’s in Ft. Pierce. When she and Tom moved to Ft. Myers in 1971 she earned her real estate license as well. She also worked for Sunlighting Lamp & Shade Center (1972-73), Design Lighting (1980-85), and Final Touch Ceramics (1985-2005). She was always happiest at making something for her family and friends to treasure. She enjoyed serving her country as a poll worker for elections in Lee Country from 1974 to 2004.LaVerne is survived by four daughters – Barbara Jane Rozek of Houston, TX; Gale L. Wadzuk and Toni Ann Martin of Ft. Myers; Janet Sue Dostal of Belleair, Fl. Her daughter Diane Marie Flett predeceased her. LaVerne cherished her eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.Her Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 3595 Broadway, Ft. Myers, FL 33901 at 2:00 in the afternoon.In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to St. Michael Lutheran Church, 3595 Broadway, Ft. Myers, FL 33901, her home congregation.
