Lawrence D. Gent's Obituary
Lawrence D. Gent, Jr., 92, of Fort Myers and previously Bethel Park and Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania died Monday, July 14th at his home in the Landings. He was born November 26, 1921 in Franklin, PA, the son of the late Eleanor and Lawrence Gent. He was the husband of the late Margaret E. Gent his high school sweetheart to whom he was married for 61 years. He is survived by his daughters Connie Layman (Richard) of Malvern, PA and Linda Carpenter (Ron) of Cape Coral, the latter his devoted caretakers for the past 18 months.Additionally, Mr. Gent was the grandfather of Andrew (Jordan), Keith (Amy), and Douglas (Tracy) Layman. He enjoyed the blessings of six great-grandchildren, Maggie, Elliott, Christian, Mason, JM, and Georgia Layman.He was a loyal alumnus of the Pennsylvania State University where he distinguished himself on the basketball team in the early 1940’s. A respected mining engineer, he worked for Joy Manufacturing Company and the John T. Boyd Company from whom he retired. He was a former member of the Mt. Lebanon and Upper St. Clair Golf Clubs in Pittsburgh where he and his wife lived until 1996. In Fort Myers, Mr.Gent was a member of the Palmetto Pines Golf Club and the Landings Golf Club.Interment will be private and a Life Celebration will be held at a later date in Malvern.
