Lawrence B. Kowalke's Obituary
Lawrence B. Kowalke, age 92, of Fort Myers, Florida passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 following a recent illness.He was born on June 19, 1921 in Baraboo, Wisconsin, the proud son of Elsie (Burman) and Edward Kowalke. He was a member of the United States Army during World War II and served as a tank battalion soldier. He landed at Omaha Beach as part of Operation Overlord and later experienced combat operations as a member of the Third Army. While under the command of General George S. Patton, Larry’s tank battalion raced across France and experienced many difficult battles throughout Germany until the end of hostilities.Following the war, he returned to Wisconsin where he married Shirley (Kingsley) and together they raised a family. Larry spent his career as a linesman in Wisconsin for the public electric utility company.Funeral arrangements are private and interment will take place at a later date in Wisconsin.
