Lawrence Vernon Saunders' Obituary
Lawrence Vernon Saunders, 81, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away on June 28, 2024. Born on February 3, 1943, in Onancock, Virginia, he was the son of Pompey and Ernestine Saunders.
Despite limited formal education, Lawrence achieved remarkable success throughout his life. As a skilled builder, he contributed to the community for many years, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship. Lawrence had a natural talent for sharing his vivid memory with stories of yesteryear. His sense of humor and lively personality endeared him to everyone he met, he had a gift of making everyone smile with his loving and fun jokes. His laughter was contagious and will be truly missed.
After many travels, Lawrence settled in the state of Florida to make it his home. His active lifestyle reflected his zest for life, and he remained engaged in various activities even as he aged. In addition to his accomplishments, Lawrence was an avid gardener. His green thumb brought life and beauty to his surroundings, and he found solace in nurturing plants.
Lawrence is preceded in passing by his parents, Pompey Saunders and Ernestine Horton, his son Larry Saunders, and his siblings Dolly Williams, Gladys Herring, J.C. Saunders, Pompeii Saunders, Paul Saunders, L.H. Saunders, James Young, and William Young.
Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Earnestine Ann Saunders Hall of Florida, sons Michael Lawrence Saunders of North Carolina, and Timothy Vernon (Tiffany) Saunders of North Carolina. His grandchildren, Chibria West, Khyin Hall, Caitlyn Saunders, Dillion Saunders, Marion Saunders, Malin Saunders, and Anna Amaeya Saunders. His great grandchildren Jaiden McCray and Anbri West. His siblings, Elizabeth Ash of Virginia, Otto Saunders of Virginia, John T. Saunders of Alabama, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and special friends.
At the request of our father, we will honor his wish and not have a memorial service. We have entrusted Fort Myers Memorial Garden with the tender care of his final arrangements.
