Lawrence Edward Schaffer's Obituary
Lawrence Edward Schaffer was born January 28, 1922 to Pearl and Walter Schaffer in Chillicothe, Ohio and he died unexpectedly of a heart attack on August 30, 2015. Lawrence grew up the son of a train conductor and his grandfather was chief of police in Chillicothe. He grew up with older brother Charles, who lives in San Diego, his sister Kathryn (deceased). He was an average student in high school and advise not to go to college. His mother Pearl loves to tell the story that Lawrence did not listen to the advice and instead enlisted in the military and later went to Ohio State on the GI bill, Married Mary Malone, worked through college and graduated in civil engineering in an honorary fraternity with a 4.0 average. Lawrence lived and worked in Columbus, Ohio for the Ohio Highway System. He and Mary had two daughters Barbie and Pam and 4 grandchildren Missy, Amy, Beth and Heather; 5 great grandchildren Miranda, Morgan, Rylee, Payton and Brook. Lawrence was an active boater and enjoyed taking his family water skiing, moonlight cruises, and long cruises for family vacations. He was an active member of the Sciota Boat Club, Catawba Island Club and the Port Clinton yacht club. He became Vice President of Marketing of the Marion Power Shovel Company. He was a member of the Marion Country Club and was a very generous Dad who always shared his success and leisure activities with his family. He was an avid Ham Radio operator and he built all of his equipment. He and Mary retired to Florida and took up golf. He was an active Member of Sabal Springs Country Club, Lexington CC, Cross Creek CC. His first wife Mary died in 2001 and he later married Patricia. Lawrence joined the Elks Lodge and was awarded Elk of the year for his volunteer service in 2005. Lawrence was an active computer user and enjoyed managing investments. He was a very strong believer in doing the right thing at all times; good citizenship, and faith in God. He was dedicated to protecting and providing for his family. Lawrence will be greatly missed by his family and friends but the world is a little bit better because he was here for 93 years. His Memorial service is Friday September 4 from 6 to 8 pm at Memorial Gardens in Fort Myers, 1589 Colonial Blvd, FM, Fl 33907. A placement service will be December 30 at 2 pm.
