Lawrence E. Whiting's Obituary
Larry went to be with the LORD on May 17, 2017. He was 83 years old. He died of a stroke and cardiac arrest. He had been on oxygen full time since 2013 and also had to get around on a scooter. He was definitely a fighter as he had many physical maladies. He came to know the Lord in Waukesha, Wisconsin through some dear friends at Elmbrook Church. He had a passion for telling people about the Lord and would always ask them if they wanted to live forever in Heaven. When they would say yes, he would ask them to say the sinners prayer. He carried pamphlets in his scooter pocket so he would always have one on hand to give away. He loved his church and Sunday School. Unless he was ill or out of town with his wife, he was there every Sunday. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty (Boggs) Whiting; his 4 children: Jeffrey (Jean) Whiting of Pound, WI; Lynda Schmidt (Tom) of Waukesha, WI; Greg Whiting (Jennifer) of Waukesha, WI; Dennis Whiting (Deborah) of Watertown, WI and a step-daughter Lori Williams of Brookfield, WI; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, two sisters and 2 step-sons.Since Larry was not able to travel in recent years he looked forward to visits from his children and grandchildren and tried to keep in contact with all of them through email and text messages.Larry worked at General Electric for many years as an Appliance Representative but changed direction in the early 1990’s and took his test to become a realtor. He dabbled in commercial real estate for a few years but then got interested in building apartment buildings. With assistance from partners Mike Andaloro and Dr. Kengis both of Waukesha, WI, he planned and developed Crystal Lake, Crystal Cove and Emerald Park along with several other projects in Green Bay, Wisconsin. That was his love for many years. In 1994 when his wife retired, they moved to Cape Coral, Florida which gave Larry a chance to enjoy his passion of boating. Larry captianed family and friends on many wonderful trips and and entertained many friends and family when they would visit. In 2014 he and his wife moved to Fort Myers, Florida and became residents of a retirement village named Shell Point.A Memorial Service for Larry will be held at McGregor Baptist Church, 3750 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33966 on June 2, 2017 at 11:00 AMIn lieu of flowers the family would like to see donations be made to the Benevolence Fund at McGregor Baptist Church or directed to the missionaries in Haiti for furthering the building of homes and schools.
