Lenore Cohen's Obituary
Lenore Cohen, daughter of Matilda Belport and Michael Miller, wife of Nathan Cohen who pre-deceased her in 2008, passed away peacefully with dignity and on her own terms on September 5, 2021 at age 91.
Lenore was pre-deceased by her sisters, Harriet Shelby and Shirley Rivchun. She was the youngest of her siblings and her parents were the youngest of their generation. This made her the true matriarch of her entire family and she was indeed the last of her generation.
Lenore is survived by her sons, Bruce Miller Cohen and Fredric Stuart Cohen, by her daughter in law Eileen Napchan Cohen, Fredric’s partner Joseph Harrington and her nephew Brian Shelby. She is also survived by the love of her life, her only grandchild, granddaughter Jennifer Rachelle Cohen. Additionally, Lenore will be remembered by her many friends who loved and respected her, as she did them.
Lenore’s long life was punctuated by two very unique and distinct phases. While married, her world focused on raising her children, her extended family, branching out into the work place where she held many important jobs in diverse areas and of course her marriage to Nathan. When he passed, Lenore’s life went in a totally different direction which lasted until the moment she passed. She found her faith bolstered by her connection to Temple Beth Shalom of Cape Coral, with the guidance and love of Rabbi Devora Buchen whom she loved and respected without bounds. With her membership in Temple Beth Shalom she found many lifelong friends. So deep was this transformation for Lenore that she became a Bat Mitzvah at age 83, traveled to Israel with a tour group from the Temple, sang in the choir and helped out part time in the Temple office. In a very real sense, Beth Shalom became another family to her, sustained her and enabled her to live a long and fruitful life.
Our family wishes to thank her special friends and Rabbi Buchen from Temple Beth Shalom for helping her with these last few months of her life. Their care and support will never be forgotten. If anyone wishes to celebrate and remember Lenore, the family is asking to make donations in her memory to Hope Hospice House of Cape Coral.
A Funeral Service for Lenore will be celebrated by Rabbi Buchen at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 10, 2021 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555.
