Leon Edward Lawhon's Obituary
Leon Edward Lawhon, a third generation native of Lee County, was born to Morning Owens Singletary and Lawlon “Chuck” Lawhon on August 10, 1929. He died peacefully Saturday, December 12, 2015. Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Carol Leffers Lawhon, as well as his brothers, Kenneth (wife, June) Lawhon and Richard (wife, Libby) Lawhon. He is survived by his sons: Brent Forrest and Mark Lewis (wife, Fonna) Lawhon; granddaughter, Rachel; his brother, Donnie (wife, Norma Lawhon and a host of family and friends. Ed and Carol were well known in Fort Myers for their family owned grocery business, Ed’s Foodway on Fowler Street. In fact, all four of “Chuck’s sons: Kenneth, Ed, Richard and Donnie, owned and ran independent grocery stores here for decades. They and their progeny have been an integral part of Lee County’s colorful history for decades. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6 – 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at: www.alz.org.
