Leonard van Gaalen's Obituary
Leonard “Lee” van Gaalen of Cape Coral, FL passed on Monday, September 19, 2022 while receiving care at the Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral. He passed in the presence of his family. He was 70 years old.
Lee was a much beloved husband, father, and grandpa. In life, Lee worked as a truck driver and as a computer programmer analyst, having earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ. In his spare time, Lee enjoyed automobiles, dogs, and Formula 1 racing, but most of all Lee loved spending time with his wife of 44 years, Judy. He is survived by his wife, Judy, his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kristie, his son and daughter-in-law Joseph and Heather, and his granddaughter, Greta.
A funeral service for Lee will be celebrated by Chaplain J. Rankin McGougan at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 26, 2022 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Guests are welcome to gather and offer condolences to the family for an hour preceding this ceremony beginning at Noon, also inside the funeral home chapel. Mr. van Gaalen will thereafter be laid to rest at the Mausoleum located inside the Garden of Peace at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Entombment of his casket will take place at an undisclosed time during a private service.
After funeral services conclude, guests will be welcomed to enjoy refreshments with Judy and family at Judy's home in Cape Coral. In lieu of flowers, Lee’s family requests donations to the V Foundation for Cancer Research at https://www.v.org .
