Lorraine M. Norman's Obituary
Lorraine M. Norman, of 1925 Virginia Ave., Fort Myers, FL., died peacefully from natural causes at Lee Memorial Hospital on January 23rd. Born Lorraine Ethel Morrow on November 8th, 1925 in Tice, she was a third generation Lee County native and descendent of The Koreshan Unity community of Estero.After graduating with honors from Fort Myers High School in 1943 Lorraine joined the Civil Service and became a WAC member at Cocoa Beach, FL. There she met Sgt. James R. Norman of the USAF and quickly fell in love and married. Soon after came their first child Michele while stationed at Patrick Air Force Base. After completing their tours of duty Lorraine and Jim moved back to Fort Myers where her parents, Harry and Ethel Morrow lived. Soon to follow came 2 sons, James Mark and Gregg Stephen followed 5 years later with a third son Gary Wesley. Lorraine stayed home and raised her children until they were all in school and then took a job in the Trust department at the then Lee County Bank where she remained employed for several years until the Bank was bought out. Her husband James predeceased her into heaven in 1981.Lorraine divided her time between singing with The City of Palms Sweet Adelines Chapter, her favorite hobby, and the church choir at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church along with raising her beloved little cats and dogs. Lorraine loved her family and extended family deeply along with all animals and the history of the Koreshan Unity, which became her passion, working there as an unpaid tour guide for many years well into her seventies. She is survived by all of her children and several brothers and sisters in law in the Chicago area. Flowers or donations to the ASPCA are appreciated.Funeral service to be held at the Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Friday February 6th at 2:00 pm followed Saturday the7th with a life celebration at Presbyterian Apartments from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.Those who wish to leave a tribute, share a story or offer condolences to the family at this difficult time are urged to visit Lorraine’s memorial webpage at www.fortmyersmemorial.com and sign the guestbook.
