It was over 30 years ago when my husband Neal and I visited Rex and Lori at Mama and Daddy’s little brick house in Chesapeake VA, but I remember it well. Mama served us biscuits and sausage gravy, and Neal was never the same! So began a lifetime quest for Neal to make biscuits and sausage gravy “as good as Mama’s “
Neal went to heaven 4 years ago, and since then I’ve had the privilege of being included with many others at Mama’s table for supper club a few times. Mama always had a way of making everyone feel like family; be there at 5:30, and you are welcome to join in the fun, the meal and be beaten at Skipbo along with everyone else.
I had the chance to tell Mama about how much Neal loved her biscuits and sausage gravy and that he tried all his life to make them like her.
And when I told her, she just smiled her sweet quiet smile.
