Lowell Lawrence Cummins' Obituary
Lowell Lawrence Cummins, age 95, peacefully passed away on September 7 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 28, 1929, in Muncie, Indiana, Lowell was the cherished son of Helen and Lawrence Cummins. From a young age, he demonstrated a remarkable work ethic, beginning by selling home-grown vegetables door-to-door and later working as a newspaper delivery boy, serving 60 customers for $0 03 per paper. His tenacity and perseverance were evident throughout his life, whether it was hiking half a mile to grade school, hitchhiking to the university, or financing his own education.
Lowell graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in Civil Engineering and enjoyed a distinguished 40-year career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Starting in 1952 with a salary of $348 per month, he managed building projects across 10 countries. Notably, he was the only Goodyear employee whose name appeared on three "First Tires Produced" in the Philippines (1952), India (1961), and Morocco (1972).
During his travels, Lowell met his true love Pitt (Rina), in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at a bowling league. Their first "date" was an adventurous run through the jungles of Kuala Lumpur with her international running group, the Hash House Harriettes.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Lowell's love for baseball began in high school and continued
with his participation in the Toledo Barons Baseball League. His devotion to the New York Yankees was a defining aspect of his life. In later years, he developed a passion for golf, achieving an impressive six holes-in-one across three countries: the United States, Morocco, and Venezuela. After his first three aces, he sought recognition from the Guinness Book of Records for his achievement across three continents.
While Guinness deemed it too extraordinary for their records, Lowell celebrated his unique accomplishment with a license plate proudly displaying “6 ACES.”
Lowell was a devoted husband to Pitt, with whom he shared 46 wonderful years, and a loving father to Steven, Crystal, and Cheryl. He is survived by his beloved wife, Pitt Cummins; his children Steven (Gloria) Cummins, Crystal (Stanley) Reynolds and Cheryl (Andrew) Klobnock; his five grandchildren, Tyler, Kaleb, Jacob, Connor and Harper; and his great grandson Oliver. He was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Lawrence Cummins and his sister Maryann Dionyssiou.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Lowell will be remembered for his gentle spirit, deep love for his family, unwavering faith and infectious smile. With h is life full of remarkable achievements and cherished memories, he often said, "Been there, done that," reflecting his adventurous and fulfilling journey. His legacy of living fully and embracing life's opportunities will remain an inspiration to all who knew him.
