Lowell N. Hoisington's Obituary
Lowell N. Hoisington, Formerly of Rockford, IL. Born July 31, 1926 in Rockford, Illinois, son of Clayton and Hazel Hoisington. Lived in the Kishwaukee Community and Rockford area until 2011 when he relocated to Fort Myers, FL. Married to the former Eunice Edwards of Montrose, PA for 61 years. Survivors include his wife, Eunice; his son, Norman Hoisington of Rockford, a daughter, Beverly (John) Klintz of Alpharetta, GA and a sister Priscilla Rogers of Albuquerque, NM. He was born into a farming family which had in-depth involvement in education. These two areas of farming and education would characterize his life and career. He also served his country with the rank of Sgt. in post WWII Austria. When asked what he did in the Army, his quick response was always, “March!” He was a graduate of East High School and earned a BS from Wheaton College and a MSEd from Northern Illinois University. While in business with his father as an owner-operator of an International Harvester farm equipment store in the early 60’s he chose to train in the nascent world of computer data processing. This forward-thinking training tapped into his ability to analyze systems and create processes to make them function well. He worked for several institutions in computer services setting up main frames, writing programs, and processing school business administration and student records. He retired from Rock Valley Community College as the Director of Computer Services after he had participated in the design and development of the Technology Center and Computer Integrated Manufacturing Cell. Throughout his career in Information Technology he was also involved in grain farming including hands-on work in the field. His retirement years were spent in farmland management, disassembling main frame computers for scrap metal and as an on-call driver for Todd Transit where he achieved 14 years of safe driving awards. In 2011 he and Eunice moved to Southwest Florida, their favorite vacation spot where he lived in Shell Point Retirement Community and succumbed to the slow-motion decline of dementia. He had a commitment to Jesus Christ from his youth and was a member of First Evangelical Covenant Church of Rockford, IL where he served God in various ways, often driving a bus or serving on a board. He was a generous and cheerful giver and always looked for ways to make his contributions count as a good investment. His approach to life can be summed up in a statement he wrote on his job application cover letter. “My personal life is committed to high moral and ethical standards; I seek to attain the same high standard of accomplishment in my career. My religious principles allow me no compromise in either area.” Private services were held in Fort Myers with burial in Kishwaukee Cemetery in Stillman Valley, IL at a yet to be determined date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Alaska Christian College; 35109 Royal Place, Soldotna, AK 99669.
