Lucille Newland Cooper's Obituary
Lucille Newland Cooper of Fort Myers, FL, died on December 30, 2014. She was born on June 29, 1924 in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Colonel Harold B. and Marie M. (McGlynn) Newland. After high school, Mrs. Cooper attended Columbus (Ohio) Business School and Ohio State University. Mrs. Cooper moved to Fort Hayes, Ohio and was secretary for the Army Quartermaster. Mrs. Cooper has reunited with her husband of 67 years, Philip Sheldon Cooper, whom she married on July 1, 1944. She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Cooper Randolph of Fort Myers and Nancy Cooper Pitt (married to Jerome Pitt) of Indianapolis, IN, her daughter-in-law, Sharon E. Cooper of Anderson, IN and by seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a niece, a nephew and several cousins. Her son, Robert P. Cooper and her sister, Marie Autry, predeceased her. Among her community activities, she was president of the Anderson Fine Arts Center, president of St. John’s Hospital Victoria Guild, president of Indiana Law Wives, president of Tri Kappa Sorority of Indiana, president of Clio Club and Current Events Club of Anderson, signature member of the Watercolor Society of Indiana, member of the Fort Myers Beach Art League and the Sanibel and Captiva Art League. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Cypress Cove Art Studio. Mrs. Cooper was also co-owner of the Cricket House on the Anderson University Campus. Arrangements are being handled by Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
