Luigi Visciotti's Obituary
Luigi Visciotti, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion.
Born in Poggio delle Rose, a hamlet within the town of Cermignano in the province of Teramo, Italy, Luigi was the cherished only son of Amina Talamonti and Domenico Visciotti and brother to sisters Anna, Liliana, and Venezzia. His early years were filled with simple joys---climbing trees, serving as an altar boy, helping his mother in the small family store, playing Scopa (an Italian card game) on street corners, and nurturing the deep faith that guided his life.
At 15, Luigi began learning the art of tailoring, carrying his sewing machine from village to village to perfect his craft. Seeking opportunity, he joined his father in Venezuela and later journeyed to the United States in 1960 to pursue the American Dream. It was there that he met Lucille LaPorte, the love of his life. Just weeks after their first date, they married on December 16, 1962, beginning a love story that lasted nearly 63 years.
Together they built a beautiful life in Florida, raising three children---Amina, Gina, and Luigi Jr. (Lou)---and creating cherished family traditions like summer road trips in their station wagon, grilling, and swimming in the pool. He visited Italy with his family and maintained close communications with his relatives. In 1979, Luigi opened Luigi's Tailoring, a beloved community establishment until their retirement in 2002. His craftsmanship, skill and kindness touched the countless lives, and his unwavering faith led him and Lucille to serve as devoted members and volunteers at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord.
Luigi's greatest joy came with becoming a grandfather to Michael, Anthony, Christina, and Samantha. Summers with Grandpa were filled with card games, word searches, eating out, swimming, watching the Tour de France, and tailoring lessons. His happiness grew even more with the arrival of his great-grandson, Greyson, in 2023.
In later years, Luigi and Lucille moved in with Amina and her husband Gerry, where he enjoyed afternoon glasses of vino, Italian meals, cagiuni and panettone (both Italian pastries), OGGI (Italian) magazines, card games, word searches, collecting pens and daily Mass---always surrounded by those he loved most.
Luigi is preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Lucille Visciotti, father Domenico Visciotti, mother Talamonti, and sister Venezzia Visciotti.
Luigi is survived by his children and their spouses, Amina and Gerry Batista, Gina and Ray Antalick, and Luigi and Deana Visciotti; his grandchildren: Michael and Luara Batista, Robert Batista, Anthony and Brittany Visciotti, Christina Visciotti, and Samantha Visciotti; his great-grandson Greyson Visciotti; and his siters Anna and Liliana.
Luigi is now reunited in eternity with his beloved Lucille. Though his chair is now empty, his spirit lives on in every memory, every stitch, every prayer, and every embrace. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation in his honor on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord. Burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
