Lyda Ruth Burks' Obituary
Lyda Ruth Burks of Fort Myers, Florida, best known as Ruth to her family and friends, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Monday, May 24, 2021 following recent health challenges. She was 86 years old. Ruth was born on November 30, 1934 in Black Oak, Tennessee, the beautiful daughter to Carrie Lucielle and Joe Patrick McCoy. Ruth was preceded in death by her three brothers, Jean, Tommy, and Terry, and is survived by her sisters Patricia and Rita, and brother Floyd. Ruth was the devoted wife to her loving husband Rex D. Burks, who sadly preceded her in death in 2005. They are survived by their three children, Barry, Deanne, and Michael. Ruth was adored by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ruth was an accomplished seamstress, who thoroughly enjoyed creating and crafting intricate pieces. She also enjoyed cooking and hosting gatherings for family, friends, and community. Ruth will be remembered by her family and dear friends as a generous, caring, and gregarious soul, who brought light to everyone she encountered. Her infectious cheer and welcoming smile will be carried on through the memories of those who had the pleasure of knowing her, and she will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service for Ruth will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 5, 2021 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Guests will be received for an hour preceding this ceremony beginning at 1:00 PM also inside the funeral home chapel. Ruth will be laid to rest in Sparta, Tennessee at a family plot located in the McCoy Cemetery.
