Margaret Mary Vermeyen's Obituary
Margaret Mary Vermeyen passed away on December 7th, 2013 in Fort Myers, Florida where she was living with Chuck Vermeyen her husband of 55 years. She started her journey on March 11, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois with her parents, Napoleon and Margaret (Brady) Picard. Marge attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School and Immaculata High school before enrolling at Mundelein College. After a year of college, she met Charles P. Vermeyen and got married on November 29, 1958. Their first child, Julie, was born in October the following year. Sons Chuck Jr., Tracy and John soon followed.After 14 years in Skokie, Illinois the Vermeyen’s packed up and moved to Carbondale, Colorado to pursue a business opportunity. Marge raised her kids in the Roaring Fork Valley and worked a variety of jobs after her kids left home. In 1986, she and Chuck moved to Connecticut and worked there until 1997 when Chuck retired from a long career in architecture. They moved back to Colorado to spend their retirement years and be closer to their children, six grand children (Eric, Katelyn, Jack, Scott, Natalie, and Matthew), and many dear friends. They took several months to relocate their sailboat from Connecticut to Florida where they moved around until they found Cape Coral, Florida and set up a snowbird’s nest. They spent the winter months on the boat for six years, but eventually settled in a townhome.In 2006, Marge suffered a stroke and courageously dealt with the pain and suffering involved with the rehabilitation process. More recently, Marge split her time between Carbondale and Cape Coral. While she loved living in the shadow of Mount Sopris, she also enjoyed Florida’s warm weather, walks on the beach, sailing with Chuck, and weekly visits with her stroke support group friends.Marge was a devout Catholic her entire life. She prayed daily for her family, friends, and whoever else she thought needed God’s assistance. She enjoyed volunteering and socializing with her sisters in the Beta Chi Sorority in the Roaring Fork Valley and always enjoyed the senior lunches at senior housing center in Carbondale.A cremation is planned and a memorial service will be held at Saint Mary of the Crown Church in Carbondale, Colorado next summer.
