Margaret Irene Watcke's Obituary
Margaret Irene Watcke of Fort Myers, Florida passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 4, 2021 with her loving family be her side. She was 96 years old.
Margaret was born in Stratford, Connecticut on October 12, 1924, the beautiful daughter to Elizabeth (Mikulic) and William Figlar. Margaret grew up on a small family farm and graduated from Stratford High School. During WWII, she, along with many other local women, worked in a factory in Bridgeport, Connecticut to support the war effort. After the war, she married Louis Watcke, her beloved husband of 60 years. Together with Louis' brothers, they started the Watcke Trucking Co in Bridgeport, where she worked as the Corporate Secretary. They raised two sons, Dennis and James, and, following retirement, eventually settled in at Thunderbird Park in Fort Myers, Florida where they made many friends. After her husband died in 2006, Margaret continued to live in her home in Thunderbird Park. She leaves behind her loving sons Dennis of St. Augustine, Florida and James of Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
A Funeral Service for Margaret will be celebrated by Fr. Thomas A. Heck at 11:30 AM on Friday, April 9, 2021 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Guests will be received for Visitation for an hour preceding this ceremony beginning at 10:30 AM also inside the funeral home chapel. At the conclusion of these ceremonies, friends and family will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Margaret will be laid to rest in Section II of the Meditation Garden alongside her dearly departed husband Louis.
