Margaret Ann Yarbrough's Obituary
Margaret Ann Yarbrough, 89, a perpetually sunny, big-hearted former nurse who worked for over 40 years at Lee Memorial Hospital, died Sunday of natural causes, surrounded by her only son John Hervey Yarbrough and daughter-in-law Damien Lin. Born in Raiford, Florida, Mrs. Yarbrough was the wife of the late Leo Yarbrough and the twin sister of the late Jane Smith. She was proceeded in death by a daughter Susie Eppler; her two brothers, Sonny and John Dekle; and a sister Frances Hanlon. “Granny Yarbrough,” as she was known, was a bit of a tomboy growing up, she was an all-state guard on her high school basketball team along with her twin sister Jane, and also a cheerleader for the football team. She and her twin sister began working as nurses at Lee Memorial in 1952 when it had only 35 beds. From pediatrics to orthopedics to private duty she was a living history book of the local medical community, proudly praising the hospital and recounting stories of her career. Mrs. Yarbrough was a sports fan, particularly when it came to her son and grandsons Jon and Casey who were all accomplished athletes; and her granddaughter, Ali, a sailor. A deeply religious woman, Granny was an endless well of love to all of the family and friends whose lives she touched. She always had an open door and an open heart. She was loved by many, and will be missed by so many as well. She is survived by grand children Leo and LeeAnn, numerous nieces and nephews, and 11 great grandchildren. Services will be held February 10 at the Fort Myers Memorial Garden. Family Reception at 1pm, and Service at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, Granny requested that donations be made to the Edison Sailing Center, 1420 Del Rio Drive, Ft Myers, Fl. 33901.
