Marjorie "Midge" Black's Obituary
Marjorie Blanche Black passed away May 24, 2024 in Fort Myers, FL after a lengthy period of declining health.
Born June 19, 1934 in Springdale, PA, Midge is survived by her husband of 68 years, CAPT Richard D. Black, Chaplain Corps, USN, RET, and children: Lawrence Black (Debra), Jennifer Boocock (Kevin) of Fort Myers and Judith Black (John Edwards) of Atlanta, GA. Four grandchildren, Lauren Black (Jon Spiropoulos), Kate Dolan (Charles), Brian Boocock (Nikki) of Ft Myers and Erin Black of Lake Tahoe, NV. Four great grandchildren, Charlotte, Liam and Henry Dolan and Carter Boocock of Estero, FL Also, surviving is a brother James C. Miller of Williamsburg, VA.
Preceding her in death were her parents Lulu and James W Miller of Cheswick, PA and sister Carol Johnson of Grandview, MI.
Midge was Salutatorian of her high school class in Springdale PA and obtained an associate degree from Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA. She worked at Westinghouse Corporation in Pittsburgh before leaving work for family.
Entirely devoted to her husband and children, Midge was a committed 28 year Navy wife enduring numerous sea and land deployments to Vietnam and harsh living conditions in far flung outposts like Adak, Alaska and Sardinia, Italy.
Midge and Dick settled in Orlando upon retirement where she worked for many years at the Rollins College Library. She and Dick were active in numerous retired military organizations in central Florida.
A long time member of Tuskawilla Presbyterian Church, Midge had an enduring Christian faith. A talented clarinetist she played in the Shrine, VFW and Westminster Towers bands.
Midge's selfless devotion to her husband Richard was a guiding light for her adoring children who are truly blessed to have called her mother.
A Visitation for Midge will be conducted from 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM on Thursday, May 30, 2024 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. A Funeral Ceremony will immediately follow at 11:30 AM also conducted inside the funeral home chapel. At the conclusion of these services, family and friends will travel to her place of final rest at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 82, Sarasota, Florida 34241, (941) 922-7200, to attend her interment scheduled to take place at 2:00 PM.
