Martha Alene Pendergrass' Obituary
Martha Alene Pendergrass, age 91, of Wake Forest, NC passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Savior on Friday July 10, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Pendergrass (1997), oldest daughter, Theresa Lynn Pendergrass (2010), father Austin Visage, mother Janie Visage (Cooper), brothers, Charles Visage and Billy Dean Visage, sister Brenda Fox, Brothers-in-Law George Fox, CL Pendergrass, Howard Pendergrass, Lyman Pendergrass and Sisters-in-Law Margie Pendergrass, Peggy Dill and Evelyn Pendergrass.
She is survived by her daughter Traci Curry and Son-in-Law Brad Curry of Wake Forest, NC; Grandson Austin Curry and Fiancee' Ashley Wagner; Granddaughter London Curry; Sisters Judy Watson and her husband Raymond Watson, Patsy Murphy and her husband Tim Murphy; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Martha and her husband Bill moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1953 where she attended Cosmetology School and worked as a Salon Owner/Hair Dresser for almost 60 years. Martha lived her life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, cooking, spending time with her children and beloved grandchildren and she absolutely loved vanilla ice cream cones! She had an uncanny way with kindness and she never met a stranger. She was a remarkable mom and grandmother - once her grandchildren came into her life, she became known as "Grammy" to everyone. Grammy was truly one in a million. She was kind, sweet natured and she loved to laugh.
Martha had a strong faith in the lord and she was a member of McGregor Baptist Church in Fort Myers for over 40 years. She was very actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren and spent a lot of her time reading to them and doing fun activities with them. They meant the entire world to her! Martha loved to read and she loved arts and crafts. She began a tough battle with dementia that onset shortly after the death of her daughter Theresa in 2010. She came to North Carolina in 2015 with her daughter Traci and her husband Brad to be cared for in the last years of her beautiful life. It has been the honor of our family to be her primary caregivers for the last several years.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL. A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 17, 2020 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Anyone attending the service the funeral home asks that masks be worn and that the CDC Guidelines regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic are respected.
She had many sweet friends in North Carolina and we will be planning a Celebration of Life Service for her in the coming weeks.
