Mary Elizabeth Book's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Book, age 100, of Fort Myers, Florida passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday, April 24, 2015. She was born in New Stanton Pennsylvania, a daughter of Effie (Bryan) and William Davis on August 1, 1914.As a young girl attending the new junior high school at New Stanton, Mary had the distinct honor of being elected their first May Queen. From there, she attended Greensburg High School. After high school she was employed a number of years at the Porcelier Manufacturing Company of Greensburg. It was here that she met her beloved husband Austin Book of Youngwood, PA. To this marriage two daughters were born, Linda (Mrs. Chuck Rakos) and Elizabeth “Betse” (Mrs. Ted Cook) both of Fort Myers.Before coming to Florida in 1996, the Book family lived in Boalsburg, PA and Mary spent 11 years working at Penn State University. She was a member of Tussey Rebekah Lodge of Pennsylvania in Boalsburg and was member of the Eastern Star in Greensburg.Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, her brother Emerson Davis and her sister Pearl Blackburn of Youngwood, PA. She is survived by her daughter Linda and husband Chuck Rakos; daughter Betse Cook and husband Ted; a grandson James Cook and wife Whitney of Clearwater, FL and granddaughter Amy Dziedzic and husband Tony of Fort Myers, FL.A visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida, (239) 936-0555. A memorial service will be celebrated immediately after the visitation at 1:00 PM also in the funeral home chapel.
