Mary E Dufeny's Obituary
Mary Ellen Dufeny (Cindy to her family) died peacefully on December 13, 2019 at the Hope Hospice House in Coral Gables, Florida. Mary Ellen was born on April 25, 1943 in up state New York and grew up in Absecon, New Jersey and Tampa, Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents, Max Dufeny, Sr. and Martha Dufeny of Tampa. She is survived by her brother, Max Dufeny, Jr. (Margaret) of Tampa, nephews Mark Dufeny of Miami and Charles Dufeny (Teresa) of Tampa, great nephew, Owen Dufeny of Miami, and great nieces Ellison and Nina Dufeny of Tampa.
Mary Ellen spent most of her adult life in the Fort Myers, Florida area. She was able to live independently for most of those years in spite of handicaps resulting from childhood illness. She was a faithful employee of St. Vincent De Paul at their downtown Fort Myers store from its opening in 1978 until it closed in 2002. She was recognized by the President of the District Council of St. Vincent de Paul for “extraordinary service …you have provided to the poor and needy we all serve.” Slater Road Baptist Church was at all times the corner stone of her life.
Mary Ellen spent her last years at Consulate Health Care in North Fort Myers where she engrossed herself in the life of the facility. For several years she could be found running a snack bar in the lobby. She was elected president of the residents’ association several times.
There will be a memorial service for Mary Ellen following the 11:00 worship service at the church on Sunday, December 22, 2019. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Slater Road Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.
