Mary Lou John's Obituary
Mary Lou John, 81, a 45-year resident of North Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Rolla, MO passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at her residence. She was born August 2, 1939 in Toledo, OH.
Mary Lou was the owner of Mary Lou’s Western Wear for past 38 yrs. She groomed dogs for 17 yrs. She became very active in the horse community. Mary Lou along with her former husband, David John, started DJ’s Ranch. DJ’s was a horse boarding stable that offered trail rides, hay rides and carriage rides in downtown Fort Myers on the weekends and weddings. They also sold feed and hay. Mary Lou and David started the Jack Benny Saddle Club in the early 80s, which is now the Caloosa Saddle Club. Mary Lou competed in barrels, poles, western pleasure, and cutting.
Most importantly Mary Lou was a devout Christian. Her love for Jesus was known to all. She was independent, strong, feisty and loved with all her heart. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Josephine Mitchel; the mother who raised her, Mavis Light; two brothers, Harry Lee Mitchell and Bob Mitchell; and her sister, Betty Jo Mitchell.
She is survived by her three loving children, Amanda Duet (Rickey) of North Fort Myers, FL, Justin John of Fort Myers, FL and Chris John (Nancy) of Punta Gorda, FL; one sister, Janet Schaffer (Tom) of Rolla, MO; one half brother, Bill Schnider of Missouri; two adored grandchildren, Blake Bradley and Faith John; her beloved dog, Moses; as well as many friends.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated 12 NOON, Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Sonshine Worship Center, 12925 Palm Beach Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33905. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 11:00 AM until the service time at the church.
Graveside Services will be held at Rolla City Cemetery, Rolla, MO.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907.
