Mary Elizabeth (yes, full name as she was known to us in our family) was one of the greatest cousins ever! She and my father's mother were sisters (Sarah and Helen).
When my brothers and I were kids, our parents (Jim and Jackie Spanfelner) would "travel" from Herkimer to West Winfield every Thanksgiving morning with Grandma Helen so the two "girls" could visit together for the holiday. Mary Elizabeth was a teenager then...and was always so good to her "pain in the neck" little cousins. ☺️ We continued the "trek" for years after, but it wasn't the same for us kids when Mary Elizabeth went to off college and then got married!
So many years have passed since that time, but I always smile thinking of those happy and wonderful Thanksgiving memories.
It sounds like Mary Elizabeth had a very good and fulfilling life; I know that her kindness was felt by many!
Jim and family, please know that the good Lord has had her under His wings (along with many family members that greeted her) since she entered those pearly gates. When my father passed a few years back, Fr. Cunningham's closing words were that he was sure that when my father arrived in Heaven God said, "Well done". I can guarantee that God said the same thing to Mary Elizabeth!
God bless you and your family! 🙏
