Matea A. Navarro, 81, of Fort Myers, died October 2, 2014 at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at St. John 23rd Catholic Church, 13060 Palomino Lane, Fort Myers, FL, 33912. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Monday, October 6, 2014, at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33907. Cremation rites will follow. Memorials: Donor’s Choice Matea was born September 21, 1933 in the Dominican Republic, the daughter of Lalo and Maria (Mueces) Alcantara. She was married to her husband of 25 years, Francisco Navarro Sr. Matea served as a caterer for the Jewish Orthodox Airlines at JFK International in New York. She retired at the age of 62. She was a member of St. John 23rd Catholic Church, loved her grandchildren, watching television, enjoyed walking, loved animals, flower’s and was known to have a “green thumb”. Surviving are her daughter, Fior Bruton and her husband Alex of Keyport, NJ; son, Francisco J. Navarro, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Port Saint Lucie, FL; son, Freddy A. Navarro and his wife Glenys of Fort Myers; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents and two sisters.
