Oh my goodness, it is only now that I've found out about Maura's passing and I am so, so sorry to hear this. She was on my mind all day today even though I hadn't seen her since about 1969. As soon as I saw this photo of her, I recognized her immediately although she wore her hair just a bit differently in the late 60s. I worked with Maura at Vepco in Richmond, Va, at the old 7th and Franklin building and she knew me then as Jenny Crouch. She was terrific in every way, always smiling, always a whoop of laughter and as outgoing as could be. She and I had birthdays a week apart, mine being April 12th, so both of us were Aries girls with a huge love of animals and a real joy for a good joke. I thought she was amazing and I was so glad to know her. I can still see her sitting across the desk from me, listening to a customer on the phone, sometimes trying not to fall over laughing but always a super employee, and best of all, a super friend. "Maura" was a stupendous name, but what she really was was a "Sunny". Can you see it? Glowing all the time. I know she will be forever missed.

When I was 14 years old I started my first job working at subway in Cashiers, NC. Maura was one of my first customers, she was a pleasure and I always smiled when I would see her and her husband, Bill. I would always say "Hi Mrs.Crumpacker. She would insist I called her Maura. Eventually, I did. I love Christmas and I would decorate the whole store, anywhere I could string lights I would. She would always complement it year after year. Telling me stories of her children and their children. They always stopped to say goodbye to me and I would always be so sad when they went back home to Florida. I would be excited when she came in and always get an Unsweetened iced tea. Year after year i would see her and hug her and we would communicate through emails all year. I last saw them in Cashiers I had moved back from NY and she said she kept up with me through my mother who runs a local shoe store in town. I told her I was about to open my own business. She always encouraged I had my own business because I had such a passion to work. I'm now 29 and still help at subway and my business is in the building I met Maura in. Today I realized I hadn't seen her in a while and never received an email reply. I decided to google her name to see if maybe I could find her number after the owner of subway and I were talking about her. The first listing was an obituary my heart broke today. I'm so sorry for the loss to this family and Bill. I will always remember this special woman in my heart. She gave me a passion because of how I was able to treat this customer like she was a friend/family. I always love working with people, I think if you treat them like you know them you will never upset a customer. From all of us at subway we will miss you forever. Love to the family. I went to Sem with Maura. Just came across this for the first time. Very sorry to hear the sad news. Always liked her very much. I'm sure she'll be missed. Could tell how much she loved all of her family. You have my deepest sympathy.

What a beautiful woman, Ive always loved this picture of her ….. Words cant express the sadness I feel for your family at this very difficult time. I smile everytime I think of her and the conversations we would have in the kitchen while she cooked for the family. Always had a smile on her face and if you ever disappointed her, she would just give you that look. Not a mean bone in her body. I will ALWAYS have fond memories of her .She was a second mom to me growing up. THEE best neighbors! A truely wonderful woman indeed. See you on the other side Maura!! I hope to see the fam on Friday!God Bless and may she look over us with that beautiful smile!!!!
