Maycel W Mirr's Obituary
Maycel Waverly Mirr, 88, of Fort Myers, passed away on August 26, 2024, after a long life of everlasting love, friendship, compassion, and adventure.
Maycel was born to Clarence and June Kugler in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on April 14, 1936. She was one of eight children preceded in death by Skippy Kugler, Keith Kugler, Sheri Novak, Carlyle Kugler, Darlene Schultze, and Coralie Eckhart, and she is survived by her youngest sister, Holly Sponder, of Arizona.
While in high school, Maycel exchanged letters with a young Sergeant in the Army, which led to an everlasting love and journey with her husband, Richard Mirr, that lasted 70 years.
While moving around early in life with three young children, in 1964, they ended up in Ogden Dunes, Indiana where she was an integral part of the community as the Ogden Dunes Women’s Club President and the owner of Hoosier Travel. Maycel and Dick would then retire to Fort Myers, Florida, in 1990, where they have lived for the past 34 years and developed enduring friendships.
Her adventurous passions led her to explore the globe, including driving twice from Indiana to Acapulco in the 1960s and countless trips worldwide. Their yacht, Lady May, took them to the islands and beyond, and during her lifetime, she and her husband amassed over 50 cruises.
Maycel devoted her time to her extensive family and the causes she cared about. She was a member and Queen of the Daughters of Nile and supported her community and friends in Fort Myers.
To know Maycel was to love her. She was a beautiful woman inside and out, kind, compassionate, and caring, with a heart of gold and respect for everyone she met.
It was her goal to make it to her 70th wedding anniversary to celebrate her love with Richard, a love story for the ages and she did so with radiance and grace, surrounded by her family and friends.
We will miss you, Maycel, wife, mom, nana, great-nana, aunt May, and friend. You were the best of the best, and we thank you for your love, support, and guidance and for making the world a better place.
Maycel is survived by her husband and lifelong companion Richard Mirr, her children and their spouses: Derek Mirr and Betty Mirr (Ft. Myers, FL), Douglas Mirr and Laura Mirr (Elkhart, IN), and Ken Mirr and Julie Mirr (Denver, CO), her grandchildren Elizabeth Wysocki, Allen Mirr, Meggan Dougherty, Haley Mirr, Hannah Mirr, Robert Mirr, Allison Kimbrough, Jessica Mirr, Brandon Mirr, Ambica Mirr, and 11 Great-Grandchildren.
