Mercedes Costa Lara's Obituary
Mercedes Costa Lara, of Cape Coral, passed peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2023. Mercedes was born September 16, 1944, to Jose “Pepe” and Augustina “Pilar’ Costa in Manzanillo, Cuba.
Mercedes has called America her home since her early teenage years. Although her sentiments were in Cuba she was a proud American who was grateful to be a citizen of the United States. She had held her faith very close and had been a member of St. Andrew's church and a devoted practitioner to her Lord. Aside from her faith Mercedes was a passionate and joyful dancer. She was a wonderful ballroom dancer, but found her passion with Argentine Tango in which she danced beautifully with her heart - a true Tanguera. She spent her life as an avid gym goer, natural athlete and sports enthusiast for all of her children’s events. Mercedes is known on the fields of popwarner football and little league girls softballl in her time - she was the loudest one there. Mercedes’ life was one devoted to her four children, as a protector or a cheerleader, Mercedes’ life was focused on her kids. Her four children were her reason for being. Mercedes was a very loving woman, deemed as “carinosa” by many who met her. If you knew her, you were fortunate to feel her love for you - her touch was of sweetness and pure love. Mercedes was a stay at home mother for many years, but as her children became older she worked as a medical transcriptionist, legal secretary, and real estate broker selling land in Cape Coral. Mom was the jack of all trades and stepped up to help provide for her family at times working many jobs at once. Mercedes was a true gem to her family.
Mercedes is preceded in passing by her parents, Pepe and Pilar, and her brother Jose “Papito” Costa.
Mercedes leaves her loving memory with her beloved survivors, children Miguel (Christine) Lara of Cape Coral, Luis Lara of Cape Coral, Raul (Melissa) Lara of Cape Coral, and Mercedes Lara of Cape Coral, grandchildren Alexa, Miguel, Brady, and Sophia, Brandi and Brittany, sister Martha Ramos, her cherished nieces Janette Leombruno (David) and Irene Read (Alex Sotolongo). She also leaves behind her companion, her dog, Taquita whom she loved very much.
Mercedes family has entrusted Fort Myers Memorial Gardens with the tender care of her final arrangements. There will be a service held at St. Andrew Catholic Church 2628 Del Prado Blvd S, Cape Coral, FL 33904 on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 11AM and she will be laid to rest immediately following at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
