MICHAEL JOSEPH ANDERSON's Obituary
Michael Joseph Anderson of Cape Coral, Florida passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 26, 2017 in his home. He was 65. Michael was born September 30, 1951 in Medford New Jersey to the late James and Mildred Anderson.Michael was a retired Command Sergeant Major in the US Army earning several medals and ribbons from his tours of duty. Notable decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (3 times), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal. In addition to his honorable service to country in the Army, he also retired as a detective with the Philadelphia Police Department. After moving to southwest Florida, he worked and retired from the Lee County Code Enforcement Department.As a co-founder of the “Swing For the Kids” Charity benefitting Golisano Children’s Hiospital, his giving spirit didn’t stop with his career path. Mike gave freely of his time including his active involvement in the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police and the Cape Coral “Cop Shop”. He was also a devoted and, some would say, “obsessed” fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Frankie Anderson. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 29+ years, Billie O’Drain and four children Kelly O’Drain, Maureen Gochenauer (Joshua), Shannon O’Drain (Kevin Gallagher) and Erin Bowdren (Shaun). He is also survived by his sister Kay Acevedo (Chris) and his brother, Jim Anderson (Mary). Mike was the loving grandfather of nine grandchildren, Megan, Riley, Declan, Liam, Keegan, Eamon, Finn, Aideen and Tiarnan. He will also be missed by several nieces, nephews and friends.Visitation will be held 1pm until 3pm followed by funeral services at 3pm Monday, October 2, 2017 in the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home 1589 Colonial Boulevard Fort Myers, FL 33907.
