Miriam C Carr's Obituary
Miriam Catherine Carr, 94, of Fort Myers, passed away Sept. 28, 2021, in her daughter Susan Gillan's home on Sanibel Island after complications from COVID-19.Miriam was born in London, Ontario, Canada on Nov. 11, 1926, to Wilf and Vi Fickling. She was attending high school at age 15 when she and her classmates were declared graduated and called on to fill a labor shortage of office workers when Canada joined the British fighting during WWII. After the war, Miriam married William Edward Carr, a Canadian Army soldier. The couple had six children _ five daughters and one son. The family moved to Fort Myers from Canada in 1961, building their home in Fort Myers Villas (at the time, a near swamp land), where she resided until this year.
William preceded her in death. Miriam returned to school at age 50 to earn a business degree. She worked at the credit department of Sears, Roebuck and Co., the State of Florida and later she headed the volunteers at Southwest Florida International Airport when the new terminal opened in 2005. She also volunteered at Gulf Coast Medical Center for 14 years. She was known and loved by many people, who enjoyed her friendly, professional demeanor. Miriam attended Riverside Church and loved hearing sermons by Pastor Steve Pruitt. She loved her six children, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; she loved traveling, knitting and playing cribbage. Miriam is survived by her six children: Susan (Alex) Gillan; Denise (Sheldon) Zoldan; Michael (Debra) Carr; Sheila (Terry) Carr-McGowan; Julie (Bill) Mankin; Patti (Anthony) Wolfinbarger; her 10 grandchildren: Dennis Jordan; Chris (Ana) Jordan; Cher Leann Luisi; Mark (Bella) Grumney; Amber (Nick) Kotowski; Mike (Jen) Carr; Erica Carr; Alison Carr McGowan; Erin (Michael) Uchimura; and Natalie Mankin; 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren with two due in the coming months to Michael and Erin Uchimura, and Amber and Nick Kotowski.
Miriam is also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Phyllis, and brother, Steven Fickling.

The funeral and visitation will be held at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Blvd. Fort Myers, Fl.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or Hope Hospice.
