Miriam Martinez Hackett's Obituary
“Shine on you crazy diamond.”
Miriam Martinez Hackett, resident of Fort Myers, passed away July 7, 2022, in her home. She was 61 years old. Miriam was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on August 20, 1960 to Miriam Brugueras and Néstor Martínez.
She graduated from High School in 1978 as a member of the National Honor Society and studied architecture at Syracuse University in New York. She practiced architecture until her diagnosis of glioblastoma in late 2021, designing single-family homes, home communities, hospitals, and other commercial projects. She was an esteemed member of the American Institute of Architects.
While working in New York, she met her husband Walter Hackett. The couple were married in San Juan, Puerto Rico and had one son, Eric Hackett. The family lived for many years in New York and then relocated to Florida.
She was loved by many people for her kind, compassionate, and loving heart. Miriam cherished helping others, attending Church, painting and drawing, her dog Cody, the beach and the stars, and loved hearing sermons and studying the Bible. She is survived by her son Eric, Eric's wife, Caitlin, and her husband Walter, as well as her brothers Néstor and Iván, and her sisters Nydia and Maria Ivia who will miss her dearly.
Service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022.
