Monica Gnau Freed's Obituary
Monica Gnau Freed, 73, of North Fort Myers, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019. She was born October 23, 1945 in Fort Myers, Florida to Dr. Charles Urban and Elizabeth Krick Gnau. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Leonard Robert “Bob” Freed.Monica leaves to cherish her memory, three children: Becky Gold (Ed), Laura Krawczyk (Mike) and Dan Freed (Lori); her siblings: Cathy Hunter (Bill), Bob Gnau (Nancy), Anne Cancio-Bello, and Mary Watts (John) and her grandchildren: Victoria Gold, Cecilia Gold, Jacob Krawczyk, Luke Krawczyk, Trevor Freed, and Tyler Freed.Monica was a member of Buckingham Presbyterian Church. She was a past Elder, in charge of the Worship Committee and a coordinator for the Daring Damsels, the Widows Club. She was very active in creating and maintaining the Prayer Garden and she sang in the choir. She was a very faithful, involved member in other ministries as well.Monica was a member of the Poinciana Garden Club of Fort Myers. She was a past president and the inspiration for the Poinciana Junior Gardeners that won three awards. Monica was a long time member of Potpourri Designers winning many blue and red ribbons for floral designs. Monica was a generous and passionate gardener sharing plants when people visited her garden. If you toured the Berne Davis Gardens, you may have spotted her volunteering with her gloves on pruning the roses she loved. Monica held many offices in the club over the years and was presented the Life Membership Award.Monica was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and Red Hat Society, among other service organizations. She attended Jones Business College in Jacksonville, FL and initially worked as a medical secretary. Later she worked for the Lee County Fire Department and then with her husband at Freed Electrical Services before she retired.The celebration of her life through the witness of the Resurrection Service will be 1PM Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, Florida 33907.
