Monika Haskins' Obituary
Monika Haskins, 89, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2016. She was born in Migehnen, Kreis Braunsberg, East Prussia. She was a resident of Fort Myers for 40 years and lived in Miami for the past 12 years. Monika leaves behind her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Monika met and married the man of her dreams in 1948. Her husband, Julian M. (Jay) Haskins Sr., passed away in 1977. This woman loved this man so much that she never considered remarrying and “washing another man’s dirty socks.” Monika worked at Maas Brothers at the Edison Mall, and became an instant favorite for many of the customers. She worked part time hours and had many customers that would make sure to know her schedule, so they could speak with her about their purchase. Monika had a wonderful sense of humor and made many of the people around her laugh and smile with her German accent that she always claimed to have left behind. Monika wanted to make sure her children had a better life than she had and supported their decisions in life. She is survived by Gilbert (Kitty) of Coral Springs, Linda (John Hall) of Miami, Christy Henson (Larry) of Wake Forest, and Julian M. (Jay) Haskins Jr. (Kimberly) of Ft. Myers. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved each one of them tremendously. This is a woman that was extremely proud of what her children have done. She spent the last 12 years of her life in Miami living a dream life with Linda and John. The family is extremely grateful for the care that she received from her daughter and Son-in-Law. The care they provided was second to none. Monika was an extremely proud Mother, Oma, and Great Grandmother. Ich liebe dich, Mutti. A visitation for Monika is scheduled from 3pm – 5pm Friday, November 18, 2016 in the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33907. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 19, 2016 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2157 South Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers, FL 33901. Monika will be laid to rest in the Resurrection Garden section of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Online condolences and memories may be shared on her tribute page at www.fortmyersmemorial.com
