Nancy Ellen Scully's Obituary
Nancy Ellen Fogarty Scully, age 62, passed away suddenly from a massive brain hemorrhage at her home in Estero, Florida on April 21, 2020. She was the wife of James M. Scully and the daughter of the late William and Nancy (Meehan) Fogarty of Wolcott, CT. She was born in August of 1957 in Waterbury, CT. She grew up in Wolcott where she attended Wolcott High School and graduated with the class of 1975. During high school Nancy worked at New Lakeview Convalescent Home in Cheshire, CT as a CNA with her mother, Nancy. After graduating, Nancy attended Mattatuck Community College majoring in Business Administration.
She began working first for JANCO Business Systems and then for Lee Office Equipment while tending bar part time in Waterbury, CT. This was her warm up before fulfilling her dream…Coach Scully’s Sports Pub which opened in January of 2000 in Wolcott, CT. The Pub was a gathering place that created many more friendships along the way. Last call was in October of 2009 just prior to her retirement with Jim to Fort Myers, Florida. Nancy was currently working at Chico’s in Fort Myers to keep busy during her retirement years.
Nancy is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, Jim: her sister, Kathleen Fogarty of Rock Hall, MD; her brothers William Fogarty (Maria) of Pasadena, MD and Terence Fogarty (Alexis) of Fort Myers, FL; her nephews William Sheehan (Michael) of Bowie, MD; Ryan Fogarty (Ashley) of Pasadena, MD; Patrick Fogarty of Manassas, VA; Christian Fogarty of Johnstown, CO; and Brendan Fogarty of Pasadena, MD; also her grandnephew and grandniece Ryley and Keira Fogarty of Pasadena, MD. Nancy also leaves behind her much-loved cat Kalisi.
She is also survived by Jim’s children Karyn and Doreen of Coral Springs, FL and James Scully of Maryville, TN and his grandchildren Thomas and Josh; her brother-in-law Martin Scully (Linda) of Naples, FL and his children Sharon, Kathleen, Jackie, and Lindsay; her brother-in-law Skip Scully (Susan) and her nephew David, niece Jennifer; and grandnephew Samuel.
Nancy and Jim were married on July 30, 1987 and would have been celebrating their 33rd anniversary this year. She will be remembered as an avid golfer at Chippanee Country Club, Farmingbury Hills, and Estero Country Club. Nancy loved watching the Boston Red Sox, enjoyed cooking for and entertaining her family and many friends new and old. She was always the life of the party with her outgoing personality and love for everyone. She can be quoted as saying “I lived a great life and I had a great time.”
Services for Nancy will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions in Nancy’s name may be made to Wolcott High School, Attention: Amie Regan, 457 Boundline Road, Wolcott, CT 06716. Contributions will benefit the Jim and Nancy Scully Athletic Scholarship Fund being set up through Wolcott High School.
