Truly a remarkable lady. I met her at Olga Baptist Church and instantly grew to love her like my own grandmother. I will miss you, Naomi. Until we meet again…
Naomi, (whom I always addressed as Mrs. Summerall) welcomed this Ohio girl with a smile and hand wave when we first moved here. At first I knew no one but she made me feel not so alone. Her love of keeping her yard meticulously groomed set the bar. But her determination and love of being at Ken’s side inspired me daily. The excitement of seeing their van drive by to see this sweet lady excitedly waving at us always made me feel so happy. Her love of Ken, her family, her church and her neighbors was so apparent. We will miss her sweet smile and southern hospitality she showed us all.
We became neighbors to Ken and Naomi (whom I always addressed her as Mrs Summerall). I moved here and knew no one but she made sure that changed very quickly as we both would work daily in our yards and would stop and talk about how much work had to be done. My attempt to keep up with her was challenging for sure because she never stopped moving and working. The love her and Mr Summerall shared was such an inspiration. She loved Ken, her family, her church, and her neighborhood, that was apparent. I will so miss seeing her drive by waving with excitement to see us out in the yard. She certainly made this Ohio girl feel not so alone and inspire to work hard. She will so be missed.
Mamma, as Naomi was known to us, was the sweetest and loving mother-in-law to me and my children as their grandmother. My heart is broken, but I know she is with God and family members and friends that have already passed, and in a better place and no longer in pain. Her loved ones who are left behind will continue to share memories of Naomi and the love she and Papa shared for over 60 years. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with Papa, Darwin, Cathy, Chase, Eric (Laura) and their great grandchildren, Delilah, Theo, Elisse and Danielle.
