We are saddened to learn of the death of this wonderful doctor and compassionate msn My husband was a patient 2years ago..In spite of Dr Benitez best efforts last winter we remained in Minnesota where removal of bladder and section of bowel was required.Dick now has 2 ostomies but a better quality of life.This season we are back in Florida looking forward to follow-up care with Dr Benitez.As I went to schedule an appointment my heart sunk ..Please accept sincere sympathy and shared sorrow.He was a credit to his profession and a comfort to his patients and families

I just learned and was deeply saddened by news of the sudden and tragic loss of Dr. Omar Benitez. I was a fairly recent patient of Dr. Benitez, but even in the brief time I knew him, I saw the loving care and compassion he had for those entrusted to his care. He was open, friendly and always willing to talk and answer questions, which made dealing with a serious problem so much easier. I am privileged to have known you Dr. Benitez, and you will be missed sorely.

Dr. Benitez was always ready with a smile. When asked about his sons, the smile broadened and he shared pictures and stories of his pride and joy, his boys. His care for his patients was evident, and took the time to speak at bedside prior to surgery. His easy demeanor and sense of humor with the Preop staff will be missed. Rest well in the arms of God.

Our condolences to the Benitez family. I met Omar as a small boy when I worked at the family theatre, El Capitan, in Pharr. An extremely smart and gentle man. God give the family the peace that surpasses all understanding during this time of sorrow. Yet I pray that you celebrate his life for the years he lived on this earth for Omar is now in the caring, joyful, and loving arms of his Heavenly Father.

I am a volunteer at Gulf Coast Hospital and work in the surgery waiting area. Dr. Benitez has always been one of my favorites. His smile was amazing and he treated everyone with such respect. He liked to find the families of his patients by himself and talk to them and he knew everyone of them. We lost not just an amazing surgeon but a more amazing human being. May Our Dear Lord wrap His loving arms around his family hold them close.
