Orville B. Ramsey's Obituary
Orville “JR” Ramsey, 66, of Fort Myers, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017. He was born November 25, 1950 in Dante, Virginia and has been a Florida resident most of his life. JR devoted his earliest adulthood to the U.S. Marine Corps serving as an Engineer Equipment Operator during the Vietnam War and was appointed Staff Sergeant during his final year in the Armed Forces. He served from 1968 – 1976.Prior to retirement, JR worked as a General Contractor on Sanibel Island for many years and established Ramsey Construction, where he served as president, and worked beside his brother and best friend, Ed Ramsey.JR is survived by his wife, Anne Ramsey of Fort Myers, FL. His step-son, Andrew Ketterman of St. Louis, MO, his step-daughter, Rachael White and her husband, Rogan of Fort Myers; his siblings: Edward Ramsey of North Fort Myers, Anthony Ramsey and Caroline Simmonds of Fort Myers, FL; his step-grandchildren: Ryelan Ketterman, Brecken Ketterman and Jase Ketterman and their mother with whom JR adored, Taryn Lyons.JR deeply loved his wife, Anne, of 24 years and thoroughly enjoyed being a father to his children and dog, Lewie. He loved his grand babies and being a grandfather and always put his family first.He was among the hardest of workers and dreaded nothing more than retirement. When retirement came it meant buying a fixer upper in the mountains of North Carolina where he and his wife spent the summer s and as much of the winter a Floridian could endure.A celebration of JR’s life will be held at 5:30 PM Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery in the Field of Honor, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907, 239-936-0555. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Marines.
