Patsy Ruth Van Sickler Curtice's Obituary
Patsy Ruth VanSickler Curtice, known by those closest to her as, Mamoo, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023, in Fort Myers, Florida, at the age of 95 surrounded by her family. She was born on October 28, 1928, in Lakeland, Florida to Douglass and Ruth VanSickler. Mamoo was the matriarch of her family. She was strong in her Christian faith and always walked with the Lord. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Mamoo was the epitome of what an independent woman should be. She was a pillar of strength for her family and was always there to provide support and guidance. Her loving nature and caring demeanor touched the lives of those around her. Mamoo's presence was a source of comfort, and she will forever hold a special place in the hearts of her loved ones.
Mamoo is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rusty. They first crossed paths during their college years at Stetson University and went on to build a life together in Fort Myers, Florida, where they raised three wonderful daughters—Lynn, Cheryl, and Susan and were also active members in their First Baptist community. Tragically, Rusty's life was cut short by a heart attack at the age of 46.
Mamoo’s most cherished moments involved spending time with her family, and their strong connection was evident. Christmases, summer camping trips, and picnics at Fort Myers Beach held a great deal of significance to her. Above all else, her greatest desire was for her entire family to be together. Each of her grandchildren felt uniquely valued, calling themselves “the favorite” as she made them all feel truly, uniquely special.
Christmas eves unfolded at her house, often accommodating over twenty people under a single roof—an arrangement she wouldn't have wanted any other way. Her love for nature and the outdoors led the family to spend their summers at Vogel State Park in the North Georgia Mountains. Being from Southwest Florida, she sought every opportunity to embrace the Gulf Coast. Birthdays, anniversaries, and numerous other occasions were celebrated on the sandy beaches under the afternoon sun. The memories forged by Mamoo's family hold immeasurable value and will remain an integral part of their lives and traditions, preserving her legacy always.
She is survived by her three daughters, Lynn Weber (S. Artie), Cheryl Edgecomb (S. Gene), Susan Becker (S. Bill), her grandchildren, Todd Weber (S. Larissa), Courtney Butts (S. Dan), Amber Kronenberger (S. Mike), Ashley Parnell (S. Graham), Garrett Becker and Nicole Tluczek, Ross Becker, and her great grandchildren, Caiden and Brenna Weber, Natalie and Grady Butts, Emma and Logan Kronenberger, Marley and Kinley Parnell, Zachary, Maisie, and Mason Becker, and her dog, Sophie.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held on January 20th from 10am to 12pm at her home located at 1303 Morningside Drive in Fort Myers. The event will be a casual, drop-in, opportunity for family and friends to come together and honor Mamoo's life. Please note that no formal services are planned.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that any donations be made directly to Hope Hospice. Contributions made in Mamoo's memory will support the invaluable services provided by this organization. We cannot thank them enough for the wonderful care they gave to our family during this time.
