Paul L. Close's Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we inform you about the passing of Paul L. Close, who peacefully left us on Saturday, May 25th, 2024 at the Hospice House in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Paul's presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was born on June 25th, 1936 in Morgantown, West Virginia, to the late Paul and Irene Close.
Paul's life was filled with remarkable experiences. After graduating from high school, he served in the Air Force and cherished his time stationed in Germany. He pursued a successful career as an electrician and was a dedicated member of the IBEW. Additionally, he was a thriving entrepreneur, owning gas stations, a hotel in Daytona Beach, and various rental properties. In his later years, he found joy as a pawnbroker, reveling in the uniqueness of the items he bought and sold.
Paul had a deep love for boating, travel, western films, and collecting high-end cars. He often shared his wisdom, saying, "Growing old was not the golden years, but the rusty years. Enjoy life while you can as you never know when your time will come."
Paul is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Craig and Keith. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose, whom he married on April 23rd, 1957, his daughter Carolyn (Clarence) Baker, son Larry (Lorinda) Close, grandchildren Brandy Marshall, Jodi (Sean Ferguson) Baker, Christopher (Cheryl) Close, David (Christie) Close, Ryan Close, Brandon (Manuela) Close, great-grandchildren Stella Medhurst, Jameson Ferguson, Rendi Close, Carson Close, Annabeth Close, Freya Close, Olivia Close, and two expected great-grandbabies.
We will forever carry Paul's memory in our hearts until we meet again.
Paul's family has entrusted Fort Myers Memorial Gardens with the tender care of his final arrangements. A visitation will be held from 10-12pm on Saturday, June 8th, 2024, followed by a funeral service in our small chapel in Paul's honor. A celebration of life will follow at his home.
